Support for museums is robust regardless of political persuasion. 96% of Americans would approve of lawmakers who acted to support museums. The number is consistently high for respondents who consider themselves politically liberal (97%), moderate (95%), or conservative (93%).
While museums were closed to the public, the California museum sector lost $22 million in revenue a day according to a survey conducted by the California Association of Museums.

Even as California has begun modifying the stay-at-home order and allowing museums in some counties to reopen at 25%, these capacity limitations can add an additional financial burden. For many institutions, partial reopening is not financially viable.
