Join our panelists and moderator, Julie Baker, ED of CFTA to discuss current  federal, regional and state funding and legislative opportunities for artists, cultural workers and the creative industries.  From Save our Stages to PPP and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) for 1099 and mixed income earners to state programs to artist relief grants, learn what opportunities are available to our sector now.

This will be a two part Series with Part 1 discussing opportunities available now and Part 2 discussing advocacy priorities in 2021-2022. 

Panelists:

David Holland, Director of Impact and Public Policy, WESTAF | Western States Arts Federation
Holland began his career with BOP Consulting, a global consulting firm focused on cultural policy, leading projects for government departments, public agencies, and international organizations. For more than 10 years, he has served as an independent management consultant working primarily in the arts and culture field both nationally and internationally. His clients have included the European Cultural Foundation, the Inter-American Development Bank, Arts Council England, Salzburg Global Seminar, B3 Media, New England Foundation for the Arts, and the startup technology nonprofit Think of Us, among others. He has served as a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts Office of Research & Analysis, the Virginia Commission for the Arts, Virginians for the Arts, and the Boston Foundation and as a site reviewer for the Mass Cultural Council. 

Holland also served on research and program committees for the Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities and has served on the boards of several nonprofits, including the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia. Holland was selected as a Salzburg Global Seminar Young Cultural Innovator in 2014 and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Through his work, he has developed broad experience in the areas of cultural policy, arts advocacy, and the creative economy agenda at local, regional, national, and international levels, as well as a deep appreciation of the challenges facing nonprofit and community arts. Holland holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Amherst College and master’s degrees in international studies and diplomacy and the history of art from the University of London, SOAS.

David M. Mayeri, Founder and CEO, Berkeley Music Group (BMG)
David M. Mayeri, Founder and CEO of Berkeley Music Group (BMG), founded in 2012 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that operates the UC Theatre Taube Family Music Hall in Berkeley California. David also serves as BMG’s Major Gift Fundraiser. BMG’s mission is to present a vibrant and diverse range of live performances to advance the understanding and appreciation of music, culture and education in the Bay Area. The UC Theatre is a multi-tiered, all-ages 1,400 capacity community minded independent live music venue providing inclusive, diverse, and culturally rich music programming as well as transformative youth education programs. David is the Former COO of Bill Graham Presents and has over 40 years of experience developing, renovating, managing, and running live entertainment venues including The Fillmore in San Francisco and Denver, The Warfield in San Francisco, The Punch Line Comedy Clubs in San Francisco and Sacramento, Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, and the Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord. David also runs a venue development & operations consulting company DMM & Associates. In addition to the BMG Board, David serves on the Boards of the Bill Graham Memorial Foundation, and the newly formed National Independent Venue Foundation (NIVF).

Jennifer Laine, Executive Director, San Benito Arts Council
Jennifer Laine has served as Executive Director of the San Benito County Arts Council, a State-Local Partner to the California Arts Council, since 2010. As Executive Director, she has raised millions of dollars arts funding for the county, opened two multi-disciplinary art spaces in downtown Hollister, co-founded the City of Hollister’s Public Art Review Committee, advocated for arts in education and developed dedicated arts programming for some of the area’s most underserved communities, including low-income youth, veterans, students with disabilities and youth in corrections. Jennifer has served as a grant panelist for the California Arts Council and currently serves as Board President of the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation and on the Board of Directors of Californians for the Arts/California Arts Advocates. She holds a B.A. in Art History from UC Santa Cruz and a M.A. in Global Studies from the University of Leipzig, Germany. She is a certified Zumba Instructor and trained modern dancer. Jennifer resides in Hollister with her husband and three children.

Ron P. Muriera, Owner/Consultant, RPM Consulting
Ron P. Muriera has 20 years of experience and knowledge as an arts and cultural administrator, performing artist, community activist, educator, historian, consultant, and advocate for underrepresented populations serving communities in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, California and nationwide. He has dedicated his life focusing on issues of racial, social and economic justice, arts and culture, and educational equity with his life’s mission focused on creating a healthier, better educated and more equitable society.

Ron is owner/consultant of RPM Consulting, a sole proprietorship business that supports the mission of arts and cultural organizations and educational institutions through strategic fundraising. He has served as an Arts Commissioner on the City of San José Arts Commission, where he served as the Vice Chair, and Chair of the Arts Commission’s Public Art Committee. He has also served as board trustee with the California History Center at De Anza College, and served as a national trustee for the Filipino American National Historical Society. Currently, Ron serves on the advisory board of the Global Artists’ Creative Collaboration for Empowerment, an international arts/creative nonprofit organization, the Japanese American Museum of San Jose, and is the founding board president of Red Ladder Theatre Company.  He is also a co-founding core member of San José Arts Advocates.

Ron holds professional membership with Americans for The Arts, American Evaluation Association, and Grant Professionals Association. He has a BA in Humanities from New College of California and is a graduate of the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco
